Sediments of Dust and Light

These three large works came out of observations of light in a box constructed from found pieces of wood from the area around my studio. By working from sketches, rather than from direct observation, colour and layering of textured paint was used in a more evocative manner. 

The Yearning

Painted without using photographic references, working from memories of the mountainous region around the family cabin in Sikkilsdalen in Norway. Not being accurate depictions of an experienced past, nor completely “truthful” renderings of the Norwegian light, they end up in a place somewhere between remembered light, painterly abstraction and a romanticised idealisation of the homeland.
